HOW TO BECOME A MEDICAL INTERPRETER-WEBINAR
DE LA MORA’S Signature Medical Interpreter Training® is a 40 hour course designed to provide bilingual individuals with the skills and knowledge necessary to work as professional Medical interpreters. This is DE LA MORA’s signature curriculum, learn the proven methods that make us a nationally recognized name in interpreter training. This program is available to speakers of all languages and will serve to meet the education requirements needed to take the medical certification test.

Through this course participants will learn:
Only 14 students will be accepted into the program
- The interpreter as a conduit and cultural broker
- Code of Ethics and standards of practice
- Introduction to modes of interpretation methods and practice
- Medical terminology, body systems and general anatomy
- Medical certification process: NCBMI vs CCHI
Content will be presented in a hands-on format, allowing participants to practice their interpreting skills, assess their progress and discuss ethically challenging situations common to the field. Participants must pass a final exam in order to receive a Certificate of Proficiency in Medical Interpreting. This course fulfills the 40-hour education prerequisite required for the national medical interpreter certification. All Study materials are included in this course.
About Instructor: Athena Matilsky
Athena Matilsky is a graduate of Rutgers University with a degree focusing in Spanish Interpretation and Translation. Through internship programs, specialized coursework and hours of self-study, she became a Certified Healthcare Interpreter, passed the NJ interpreting exams at the master level, and achieved certification as a Federal Court Interpreter. She was a full-time staff interpreter for the NJ judiciary in Trenton for three years and was also editor-in-chief of NAJIT’s publication, Proteus. Currently, she is adding French as her third language in order to pursue a Master’s degree in Conference Interpretation at Middlebury Institute of International Studies. She continues to freelance for the courts and she tutors private clients on interpretation technique.
